Disney released a new teaser ad for the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel coming next year to Walt Disney World in Florida, and the fans everywhere are going crazy with excitement. While the announcement that Disney World’s one-of-a-kind immersive hotel will finally be opening in the near future is exciting, it’s what’s shown in the video ad that has the internet all abuzz.
It’s a blink and you’ll miss it moment, and anyone who didn’t read the article on Disney Parks Blog that goes along with the ad may not even be aware of what they are looking at – we didn’t even realize what we were seeing at first glance – but Disney surprised viewers with an incredible feat of engineering that is absolutely mind blowing…. Yes, that is in fact a “real” working lightsaber!
See Disney’s advertisement featuring their new lightsaber technology:
While it’s likely that you won’t be able to melt metal doors or really do anything along the lines of what lightsabers can do in the movies, seeing a bright glowing saber that actually extends from the hilt is still a dream-come-true for Star Wars fans of all ages. We don’t know how Imagineers did it, but wow! They deserve major credit and a huge round of applause for such an awesome accomplishment.
At this point we are assuming that this working lightsaber will somehow be incorporated into the lightsaber training experience that is expected to be one of many of the hotel’s immersive experiences, so there’s no indication at this time that these lightsabers will ever be sold (and if they did sell them, we wonder what they would cost… our guess is around $1,000 or more depending on how advanced and complicated this technology actually is!).
We are also hopeful that Disney will somehow utilize this technology to create some epic shows with lightsaber battles in Galaxy’s Edge, although there’s been no hint of that yet. Whatever they do with these lightsabers, though, it is certain to be an absolute hit with every Star Wars fan that visits the parks!
