Slinky Dog Dash
Our Number 1 Choice for a Walt Disney World Family Coaster
With its twists, turns, drops, and characters around every corner, Slinky Dog Dash is an absolute blast to ride and our top choice for a family coaster at Walt Disney World! While it may not be as fast or thrilling as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster or Expedition Everest, this coaster is much more than a kiddie ride!
Guests of all ages love zipping through this toy-like track while Slinky Dog and his friends entertain riders with fun and memorable sayings – all leading up to the big finale featuring a special performance of “You’ve Got a Friend In Me” by none other than Wheezy himself!
This ride is an absolute must do in Hollywood Studios and a great FastPass+ choice!
Location and Theming
Slinky Dog Dash is one of three rides located in Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The theming of this ride is fantastic and truly make you feel like you’re the size of a toy as you wind your way through the queue of Andy’s Mega Coaster Play Kit. During the ride, you’ll dash by a lot characters from the Toy Story franchise, including Jessie, Rex, and Wheezy.
Disney describes Slinky Dog Dash as a thrill ride with small drops, although the height and track twist of the first drop may catch you by surprise if you’re expecting a traditional kiddie coaster!
The entire ride is around two minutes long including the finale song – unless you have to pause for the Slinky cars in front of you to load, in which case you may get to hear a little more of Wheezy’s toe-tapping performance of “You’ve Got a Friend In Me”.
There is a height requirement for this ride, and it’s a good idea to watch our full ride video first to get an idea of what this ride is like, especially if you have younger kids. With that in mind, though, it might be a great option if your kids are ready to try a little bit faster and more thrilling ride but aren’t quite ready for the bigger coasters like Expedition Everest.
Our Top Tips
We absolutely love Slinky Dog Dash and always ride it as many times in a day as we possibly can, but that can be quite a challenge since it usually sees standby waits of over an hour! Because the lines can be quite long, we highly recommend reserving a FastPass for this ride as early as possible (read our FastPass+ Guide for more info on how to reserve FastPasses with the My Disney Experience App before you arrive in the park).
If you are unable to reserve a FastPass ahead of time, try checking for a same-day FastPass either on the My Disney Experience App or at one of the in-park kiosks. It’s a good idea to keep checking often throughout the day as sometimes FastPasses become available because other guests change their plans and because there is sometimes a possibility that more same-day FastPasses might be released.
If it is an especially busy day – such as on a holiday – then maybe consider arriving at Hollywood Studios for rope drop (aka park opening time) and lining up for Slinky Dog Dash before the major crowds arrive. Arriving at park opening is often a good way to ride at least one E-ticket attraction with a lower wait time, and sometimes you may even be able to ride more than one ride before the park gets busier.
Riding in the front of the vehicle is often less intense for many guests, but you’ll want to keep in mind that you may not see as much in front of you since Slinky’s head is quite tall. Sitting in the back of the vehicle can often make rollercoasters seem faster, and depending on style and construction of the coaster you may have a better view of the track and scenery.
The item storage in each row for this ride is quite small, so you might want to consider keeping any items you have with you in a bag you can keep at your feet. While it doesn’t go upside down, this ride has some bumps and twists and picks up quite a bit of speed, so that can cause loose items to fly around. We usually store all of our items (including our hats and ears!) in our park bag and then place that bag on the floor between our seat and our legs. We also often put one foot through the bag strap for extra security and just to make sure it doesn’t slide around in the vehicle.
